The tools for agents
Last updated:
An AI agent working inside the browser can read a page the way you do, searching headings and paragraphs for what it needs. Or it can ask the site which actions it offers and use them directly, with structured questions and answers. WebMCP is the interface that makes the second way possible, and this page says what an agent finds when it visits volcanicminds.com.
What WebMCP is
WebMCP lets a web page declare tools, each with a name, a description and the schema of the parameters it accepts, and lets an agent hosted in the browser list them and call them. The idea comes from the Model Context Protocol, but there is no server to reach here: the tools live in the page and are registered with document.modelContext.
The specification is a draft of the W3C Web Machine Learning Community Group, in the version of 2 October 2026. It is not a standard yet: the imperative part, the tools registered from JavaScript, is written; the declarative part, which describes HTML forms with attributes, is still to be written in the specification and rests on the proposal that comes with it.
What an agent can do here
On every page of the site, in English and in Italian, an agent finds eight read-only tools: an overview of Volcanic Minds, a search among the applications we build, the details of a service, a search among case studies, articles and frequently asked questions, the definition of a glossary term and the company details. They answer with the same content you read on the pages, with the address of the page it comes from.
The only tool that writes is the form on the contact page, declared on the form itself. An agent can fill it in for you, and the message takes the same path as when you write it yourself, with the same checks and the same limit on how many messages can be sent.
The full list, with the parameters of each tool, is at the end of this page. It is not written by hand: it comes from the same registry the site uses to declare the tools to the browser, so it cannot list a tool the browser does not see.
The guarantees
- Nothing changes in browsers without WebMCP: the code checks whether
document.modelContextexists before doing anything, and if it does not, the page does not download a single extra byte. - The data arrives with the first call. The answers come from one JSON file per language, generated from the content of the site at every release and downloaded only when an agent uses a tool for the first time.
- The read-only tools save nothing, neither on your device nor on our side, and use no cookies. The contact form handles data as described in the privacy notice.
- Every statement a tool returns about applications and customer areas rests on a page of the site: if the evidence is missing, the release stops.
How to try it
Checked at the source on 6 October 2026. Chrome offers WebMCP from version 149 through a time-limited trial for the sites that sign up for it, and Microsoft Edge has a similar trial running until 30 March 2027. This site is not signed up for either, so to see the tools you have to turn the interface on yourself: in Chrome open chrome://flags/#enable-webmcp-testing, set it to Enabled and restart the browser. In other browsers the page works as always, without tools.
An example call
With the interface on, open the developer tools console on a page of the site and search the frequently asked questions (tried on Chrome 155 on 8 October 2026; earlier versions wanted the parameters as a JSON string):
const tools = await document.modelContext.getTools();
const faq = tools.find((t) => t.name === 'search-faq');
const answer = await document.modelContext.executeTool(faq, { query: 'cost', limit: 3 });
JSON.parse(answer);
The answer holds the total number of results and the first three, each with the question, the answer and the address of the page with its anchor.
The same data, without WebMCP
Without a browser that has WebMCP, the same content is available in two other forms: the llms.txt file, the index of the site written for language models, and the Markdown version of every page, which you get by adding .md to the address.
The tools
Name, description and parameters as an agent receives them on the English pages. The Italian pages offer the same tools with Italian names and descriptions and the same parameters.
